About Walking Hockey
Walking Hockey is a modified version of traditional hockey, the slower and lower impact format makes the game more accessible and inclusive for all. The game is played with a softer ball, smaller field and simpler rules to increase engagement and enjoyment of the game. It can be played indoors or outdoors on grass, concrete or artificial grass making Walking Hockey extremely adaptable.
Hockey ACT are excited to establish a program hub at the centrally located National Hockey Centre in Lyneham. Competitions will be held throughout the year in eight-week blocks and provide participants with an opportunity for physical activity and social interaction with their fellow participants. Additional workshop opportunities will be provided to upskill participants and volunteers around injury prevention, nutrition, positive mental health, and physical activity.
Physio Led Session
Each program block includes a physio Led session led by Powerhouse Physiotherapy. The information session includes information and techniques on the importance of warm-up, correct technique and injury prevention. Participants are then led through a practical component, where you will put your knowledge into practice.
Who can play?
Walking Hockey is perfect for players who are looking for a less physically demanding version of hockey, but still enjoy showing off their skills and being involved in a team and social aspect. It is also perfect for players who are brand new to hockey who may be more comfortable in a less competitive format.
