Peter Tozer
Peter Tozer has been a part of the Hockey ACT community since the early 1980’s. His involvement with Hockey in the ACT covers an array of roles from player, umpire, official and volunteer.
Peter commenced his voluntary administration with HACT when he agreed to volunteer as the Tournament Director of the 1986 U21 Women’s National Championships. At this time the TD would organise the whole event on behalf of the association. Peter filled the same role for the 1988 Senior Women’s National Championship.
Peter was also a long time member of the National Hockey Centre Board undertaking number of functions including acting as the liquor and gaming licensee for a number of years. To assist the competition Peter acted as a Facility Supervisor in a voluntary capacity for the best part of a decade to ensure that the facilities were well presented and the weekends would run smoothly.
Peter was a State A Badged umpire who umpired in the 1st Grade Women’s competition for over a decade however was always willing to umpire where required across grades to ensure matches were covered.
Peter served on the HACT Disciplinary Tribunal for 8 years serving as Chair of that committee for 5 of those years.
Always willing to assist the association when required Peter enlisted his volunteer services at any event including the 2005 Champions Trophy, multiple International series, multiple June Long Weekend Carnivals, multiple Quikstix Schools Cups, multiple National Championships and AHL home matches. Peter was always willing to lend his services and volunteer where ever his services could be utilised.
One of Peter’s lasting services to HACT will be as an electrician. Leading into the 2005 Champions Trophy Peter in conjunction with Ron Jackson volunteered to re-wire the entire Lyneham facility. They sourced donations of equipment and parts from various companies across Canberra and installed fibre links for the whole building. Peter and Ron spent months ensuring the facility was re-wired and ready for the future all at no expense to Hockey ACT for labour or equipment. A truly sizable contribution.
On top of this Peter was involved in the installation of scoreboards, was a goalkeeping coach for various rep teams throughout the 1990’s, played hockey in every grade except first grade, played indoor hockey, masters hockey and represented the ACT at the Masters National Championships over many years.
Peter was the recipient of a Gold Service Award for his service to Hockey ACT.
Peter was also a long time contributor to Central Hockey Club as a contributor at the Board level, coach, player and Minkey Coordinator. Peter is a life Member of Central Hockey Club.
