ACT MENS OPEN INDOOR TEAM INTO GOLD MEDAL MATCH

 

The ACT Men’s Open Indoor team have booked their spot in tomorrow’s gold medal match in the Hockey Australia Indoor Championships in Canberra.

 

The team, who are so far, undefeated will look to secure the gold medal in front of a parochial home crowd in tomorrow’s final.

 

The team boasts a strong side featuring current Canberra Chill players Ben and Jake Staines, Garry Backhus, Aiden Dooley and Spanish international Xavi Gispert. As well as current and former Australian Indoor representatives Brendan Hill, Matthew Hotchkis and Glenn Turner.

 

After blitzing Queensland in the final round game 11-1 the side defeated Tasmania 5-3 in the semifinal with Gispert scoring three goals off penalty corners and Turner scoring the other two goals.

 

The gold medal match will be played on Wednesday 18 December at 2:30pm at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham.

 

Day four results:

Men

ACT 11 (Aiden Dooley 7, Ben Staines, Connor Tuddenham, Niranjian Gupte, Xavi Gispert)  defeated QLD 1 (Sam Systa)

 

Semi Final

ACT 5 (Xavi Gispert 3, Glenn Turner 2) defeated Tasmania 3 (Jett Leong 2, Ehren Hazell)

 

 

The ACT Womens Open Indoor team will play in their semi final at 7:50pm on Tuesday 17 December to book their spot in the grand final to be played at 1:20pm on Wednesday 18 December.
