Chill Men Qualify for Finals

Published Mon 11 Nov 2024

The Canberra Chill men have gone from strength to strength in this year’s Liberty HockeyOne season and have qualified for the final’s series in Hobart of November 30th and December 1st.

After a turbulent 2023 Hockey One season, the men have come back firing and have locked themselves into the final’s series. The Chill men headed to Hobart over the weekend to take on 2nd place, the Tassie Tigers. They put on an absolute show with an end to end match going all the way until the final siren.

The men saw the additions of Jesse Absolom, returning from representing Australia in Malaysia, and Sean Baker, returning from a shoulder injury which saw Oscar Smart and Theo Ponthieu onto the sideline.

The Tassie Tigers men took the lead early and pressured the Chill men every second of the match with back to back goals to the Tigers in the opening 10 minutes. Dylan Brick fired back in the 15th minute with a rocket dragflick to get the Chill men on the board. Tassie Men taking the lead 4-1 at half time, leaving our men to chase hard into the second half, and that they did. It was a goal fest in the second half of the match with 10 goals scored between the two teams. It was going end to end with Tassie looking likely to take the win and stop the Chill’s winning streak before Aiden Dooley slotted the winning goal and conversion to take the win in the 60th minute. Final score 8-7.

The Chill men continue to hold the top ladder position still going undefeated with a 4 game streak sitting nicely on 20 points and 20 goals. Aiden Dooley’s winning goals against Tassie Tigers propelled him into the highest goal scorer for the Hockey One season so far, sitting on 6 individual goals.

The Canberra Chill take on Hockey Club Melbourne this Friday night 15th November for their last home game at the National Hockey Centre. The men up first at 6:30pm followed by the women at 8:00pm.
