January High Performance Update
2025 has been a very busy period for the High Performance Athletes already, with many of the athletes being involved with some incredible opportunities already.
In early January, Dylan Brick travelled over to Perth to join Davis Atkin and Anand Gupte to play for the Kookaburras in some friendly/training matches against the China men.
At the same time, Darcy Macdonald headed down to the VIS in Melbourne to take part in a training block with other National Junior Squad members from various states.
In late January, Darcy Macdonald, Dylan Brick, Georgie West, Alyssa Smith and Lauren Yee headed to New Zealand to represent the Jillaroos and the Burras at the Junior World Cup Qualifiers. Both teams played in a 3-game series, taking out the series, securing the Junior Oceania Cup and qualifying for the Junior World Cup in Chennai. Dylan Brick scoring in game 2 for the men and Georgie West in game 3 for the women.
The 2025 Indoor World Cup pushed back in Porec, Croatia from the 3rd-9th of February. It was a Chill/ACT heavy line up for the men and women with Garry Backhus, Aiden Dooley, Brendan Hill, Jake Staines (C), Matt Hotchkis, Ben Staines, Connor Tuddenham, Sassie Economos and Bec Monterosso all representing Australia. The men finishing 6th and the women finishing 10th in the world.
In the lead up to the Sydney Pro League, Lucy Nash, Maya McGrath and Imogen Dorsett were invited to join the China women's national team. They joined a hybrid team where they played against the China national team in 2 matches.
Jesse Absolom, Max Robson, Hamish Morrison, Aiden Hellyer, Peter Crossman, Jake McCarthy and Aidan Smith were invited to train with and play against the Spain men's national team, along side Chill athlete and Spanish International, Xavi Gispert.
The Sydney Pro League kicked off from the 4th - 9th of February with Davis Atkin and Anand Gupte named to play for the Kookaburras across the week. Anand was named to captain the Kookaburras against the Netherlands on the 6th of February, an incredible achievement for an athlete who had just ticked over his 10th cap for his country. This match was a special one, not only with Anand as captain but Davis Atkin put on an absolute show and scored his first goal for the Kookaburras with an incredible set of skills.
Anand has also been named to travel to Argentina for the next leg of the Pro League. Games to take place from the 21st - 25th of February.
Along side Anand, Former Chill Womens Head Coach, Matt Cook will travel to Argentina to be an Assistant Coach for the Hockeyroos.
