HOCKEY ACT APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT

Friday 29th May, 2020

This past week, the Board of Hockey ACT appointed Craig Sloan as the new President of Hockey ACT. Having been a Board Director since 2017, he brings a wealth of experience and understanding to the organisation and position, especially during these turbulent times caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

Mr. Sloan is a Chartered Accountant and is a Partner at KPMG, where he has worked since 1987, and is responsible for the national delivery of financial management, costing and profitability analysis advisory services.  He is a member of the firm’s national Management Consulting Executive Board and the Chief Finance Officer for the national Management Consulting practice.

Outside of KPMG, Mr. Sloan has over 20 years serving on boards and committees across the ACT including as Chair of the Board of CIT, CIT Solutions, The National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature, and is a Director of the Canberra Business Chamber and TAFE Directors Australia just to name a few.

In addition to his many professional successes, Mr. Sloan is also an active member of the Hockey ACT community.

He has played hockey since he was 10 years of age, representing the ACT in all age groups from U12 through to U21 and Seniors throughout a 22 year playing career, receiving an AIS Visiting Scholarship during this time. Craig was a member of the Committee that established the Canberra Lakers and has continued to be a member of the United Hockey Club which he joined in 1984 where he played first grade until he retired.

“I thank the Board for giving me the opportunity to take on this important role” Mr Sloan stated.  “While this is a challenging time for all community sport organisations it is also an exciting time for Hockey ACT to look to the future.  The Board will establish a new strategic plan for the organization and the future of hockey in the ACT over the coming months and we look forward to sharing this with our members and players.”

The Hockey ACT Board and Management are excited to see Mr. Sloan make his mark on the Association in the coming years, and are confident he is ready to take on the challenges Hockey ACT may face with aplomb.

Hockey ACT CEO, Rob Sheekey concurs, “Craig is going to bring a wealth of experience and leadership to a Board of incredibly talented Directors. Craig is passionate about the sport and remains an active member of our community. Hockey ACT are very privileged to have a President with Craig’s leadership”.

Hockey ACT also wish to thank and congratulate former Hockey ACT President, Peter Martens, for his 8 years of dedication and service to the association. Under his guidance, Hockey ACT saw the successful redevelopment of the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham and Tuggeranong Hockey Park into business hubs for the community
