Hockey ACT CEO Competition Update – Thursday 19th August, 2021

Published Thu 19 Aug 2021

Dear Members,

I hope you are all doing well in this very difficult time for all our communities in the ACT and surrounds. These are strange times indeed but I hope you are all well and adjusting to lockdown life.

I wanted to provide you all with an update on HACT planning for the remainder of the season. It is currently impossible to confirm any information other than Hockey ACT will remain flexible in its approach as we move forward.

Hockey ACT remains committed to completing the remainder of the 2021 winter season if the health advice improves in an appropriate timeframe. We are currently working with all clubs on season planning and potential options if we are able to resume. Rest assured HACT have plans in place that should we be able to resume we will do so as quickly as allowable.

At this stage it is apparent that the season will not be able to conclude on the weekend 17, 18 & 19 September as originally planned. HACT are currently working with clubs to determine a definitive date when the competition will need to be concluded.

The Brophy McKay Medal Presentation evening once again will not be able to be conducted in person and as such HACT will conduct the evening in an online presentation format. This year’s presentation will also include the presentation of the new Best & Fairest and leading goal scorers for all senior grades so we hope that it will allow our broader membership to be included in the awards and we hope you are all able to join us.

I really want to thank members for their understanding at this time and again express how disappointed we are that we are in these uncertain times. There are greater issues than playing Hockey at the moment but we are keen to get you all back together to celebrate the 2021 season if possible.

I wish you all the best of health and hope you are staying safe and well at this time.

Rob Sheekey

CEO, Hockey ACT
