New Hockey ACT Life Members Elected
Hockey ACT is pleased to announce that at the Hockey ACT AGM conducted on 5 May 2020 four new Hockey ACT Life Members were elected.
Julie Allais – Recognised for her outstanding contribution to the Junior Competition Committee were she spent 4 years as chair playing a vital role in rejuvenating the Junior Boys Competition and recognised as the main driver in the creation and establishment of the Canberra Regional Boys Program. Julie also contributed through the Indoor Competition Committee, manager for ACT rep sides, was a key contributor to Valleys Hockey Club and in 2008 received the Bill Weidner Award for HACT Administrator of the Year.
Margot Grant – Recognised for her outstanding contribution to HACT facilities for over 20 years. Margot operated the Lyneham canteen from a voluntary basis through until the creation of Pick Up Stix. Margot also established the canteen at Tuggeranong, assisted with the operation of the Tuggeranong Carpark with collection of money until a full time operator was appointed. Margot also regularly opened and closed the Tuggeranong facility on behalf of Hockey ACT for in excess of 15 years.
Ian Lowrey – Recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Senior Competition Committee which he served on for in excess of 15 years creating draws for the senior competitions as well as overseeing results and ladders for the competition until 2010. Ian also took an active role in modernising HACT competition policy documents when HACT was created. Ian has also contributed as a Tech Bench official at an International level and to the United Hockey Club as a committee member. Ian received the Bill Weidner Award for HACT Administrator of the Year in 2006.
Robert Parkes – Recognised for his outstanding contribution to HACT facilities for over 20 years. Bob has voluntarily set the timing for lights at the Tuggeranong Facility as well as assisting with the opening and closing of the facility. Bob has also served as President of two separate clubs having taken the reigns at both TVMHC and Queanbeyan United and served on the committees of those clubs for over 20 years and at those clubs has been recognised for his service by receiving the club person of the year award 8 times. Bob can still be found volunteering on a Saturday morning cooking the BBQ at Queanbeyan Hin2H.
