THE BATTLE TO THE FINISH
After a tense weekend of Semi Finals, this weekend will see the final battle to decide who will face off in next weekend’s grand final matches.
After a stellar performance against last years premiers, Old Canberrans (OCHC) knocked out United in a 3-1 battle and will face off against Wests who lost their tightly contested semi-final against Central, going down in shootouts.
Will West’s coach Andrew Stead be able to coach his team back into the grand final or will the experience and determination from Old Canberrans prove too strong and see them progress into the big dance?
Saturday’s semis continued with North Canberra Eagles (NCE) in a dominant performance against minor premiers Goulburn, pushing them to a 3-1 defeat and NCE securing a place in the Grand Final and a week off. Goulburn will now take on University of Canberra (UCHC) after they secured their 3-1 win over St Patrick’s in a game where both teams rallied until the end and Emma Taylor (St Patrick’s) making two incredible stick saves in place of their keeper who was taken off in the final minutes of the game to try and keep them in the race.
This weekend is set to be a tight one with all 4 CL1 teams being heavily represented by Canberra Chill players and staff.
Wests will take the field with Garry Backhus, Jay Macdonald, Darcy Macdonald, Niranjan Gupte, James Jewell.
OCHC with Oscar Smart, Seyi Onitri (Coach), Glenn Turner (Staff) and Tristian Kearns (Staff).
Goulburn with Taquira McGrath, Lucy Nash and Kayley Boye.
Finally, UCHC with Edwina Bone, Meredith Bone (Staff), Pip Mannix, Olivia Martin and Gabi Millan.
NCE and Central will enjoy their week off and will be deep into their preparation for the finals to lift the Judith Larkins Shield and the Hill Trophy at the end of the Grand Final weekend.
