Seyi Onitiri Re-Signs as Canberra Chill Men's Head Coach

After a stellar 2024 Hockey One season, Head Coach, Seyi Onitiri re-signs with the Canberra Chill Men.

The 2024 season for the Canberra Chill Men was one for the history books. Starting off their season with 4 straight wins before a dominant HC Melbourne stopped them in their tracks in a nail biting 2-1 match in round 6. This didn’t deter Seyi and his men, going on to secure the Minor Premiership for the first time in 52 years and locking them into the finals series in Hobart. The men knocked out 2023 Premiers, Brisbane Blaze in the Semi Final before going in for redemption in the Gold Medal match against HC Melbourne. Unfortunately, the ride to the top finished there for the Canberra Chill Men going down 5-2 and bringing home a Silver medal.

Seyi is no stranger to the pitch, being one of the highest capped players in the AHL for the Canberra Lakers with 121 games, debuting in 2000. Turning his mindset to coaching where he joined the Hockey One League, starting his coaching journey back in 2019 when Hockey One first started, as an Assistant Coach before moving into the Head Coach role in 2022. Seyi has been the Head Coach ever since, named as the Hockey One Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2024, he will lead the Canberra Chill Men through for another season.

Seyi has coached the Men into 2 finals, the first in 2022 going down to the Brisbane Blaze in the Bronze Medal Match and again in 2024 in the Gold Medal Match against HC Melbourne. An experienced head on and off the field, the Canberra Chill are in good hands for the upcoming season of Hockey One.

With the gold medal in close reach in 2024, Seyi is determined to continue to build and bring home the cup in 2025.

When Seyi isn’t coaching the Chill, you can find him around the Canberra Hockey Centres on the weekends pulling on the Black and Yellow for the Old Canberrans CL1 Men.
