VALE RAY BROWN
It is with great sadness that Hockey ACT announce the recent passing of Life Member Ray Brown O.A.M. Ray was a Life Member of the association, having received the recognition in 1973 for his services to Hockey ACT. He was also granted a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2008 for his commitment to the administration of hockey in the region.
Ray Brown made an extraordinary contribution to hockey over a period of more than 50 years, fulfilling many roles and responsibilities including financial management, and leadership and committee positions. Working as the Foundation Treasurer to the Hockey Centre for 26 years, his skills and knowledge were crucial in the development of the Hockey ACT association throughout the 1980s-2010s, and re-development of the National Hockey Centre in 2016.
He also played a pivotal role in the development and introduction of Minkey Hockey (now Hookin2Hockey) into the junior competition.
In 2016, Ray received a CBR Sport award in recognition for his services to hockey in the capital region.
For his service and dedication to the association the administration area inside the National Hockey Centre is known as the Carter Brown Administration Office and the Ray Brown Indoor Stadium is named his honour.
Hockey ACT send our sympathies and condolences to Ray’s family and friends as this difficult time.
